Such an honor to be a part of this fabulous panel on "women's health, wellbeing, and empowerment" at CSCW 2019. I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to share the platform with the leading researchers in the domain for discussing pressing issues of gender, sex, reproductive health, parenting, technology for stigma, social justice, equity, and more!
This is something I love and always look forward to :) For me, it is one of the best feelings to share my learning from the field experiences and get challenged by intriguing questions from these enthusiastic and curious young minds.
Co-designing with social workers is always intense, yet illuminating in many ways...
Meet Laad Lohar, a tribal woman who never went to school and is a divorcee, working for women advocacy in an area where women are not allowed to go out and work. From the past nine years, she is not only making sanitary pads but also imparts the training to other tribal women, generating employment opportunities for them. Some people and their simple story inspire you to become a better human being and serve humanity.
When you finally succeed in drawing impromptu physiology behind menstruation on a chalkboard!! (my heart screamed yaaay!)
It was a pleasure to share the podium with one of my advisors. Great learning experience, still a long road ahead for me!
Undergrad Design students working on an in-class activity in my guest lecture in DES204 : Human Computer Interaction
This year I got an opportunity to be one of the travel chairs at ICTDX, and I enjoyed being on the organizing team. My role was not limited to being just a travel chair, but I was actively involved in volunteering throughout the conference. Given that I love meeting and talking to new people, I realized how the whole experience of providing hospitality and helping fellow peers brought me joy and happiness.
I am grateful to all my examiners for taking time out and agreeing to be part of my committee. Their feedback and comments were super valuable and will help shape my future work. I couldn't have done this without the support and guidance from both my advisors - Dr. Neha Kumar and Dr. Pushpendra Singh, who believed in me and have always supported my crazy ideas! Further, without a field partner having shared goals, the going gets harder. A big thanks SachhiSaheli and Dr. Surbhi for allowing me to learn and collaborate to collaborate, learn, and work with them while contributing back to the society! And heartfelt gratitude to all my colleagues, seniors, juniors, friends, and family for always being there and playing a crucial role in my journey up till now :)
All set and ready with a big smile to welcome you at the Summer School on Expanding the Horizons of Human-Centered AI (HCAI)!!
It is always refreshing to dip my hands into some colors :)
I am honoured to be a part of Menstrual Health Management conclave organised by UNICEF India and WaterAid India with various practitioners (NGOs, Product manufacturers, activists, and government organisations) in the field coming together to discuss and outline the future of menstrual health education in India. Here, we are participating in a focused group discussion aimed at engaging and training men to have adequate knowledge about menstruation and menstrual hygiene.
We all have the power to bring a positive difference in peoples' lives. It is just a matter of realisation. I feel empowered today. Thank you SachhiSaheli for giving me this oppertunity!
Meet Dr Surbhi Singh, founder of SachhiSaheli, a gynaecologist by profession who gave up her full-time practice to work for women empowerment. In her career as a gynaecologist, she realised the dearth of menstrual health education and how it affects the lives of women across ages. She is an inspiration and it is always a delight to work with her :)
When finally you hang up your organiser hat post a successful conference :)
The first day of the conference - finally, six months of hard work come to an end, its showtime!
Early morning workshop on Adolescent health and wellbeing with these girls, the majority of whom have yet not started with their periods, made my day! I am grateful to SachhiSaheli for giving me this opportunity to give back to society by being a part of their team and working with them :)
Had fun representing Mélange lab and presenting two of my studies at Research, Innovation, and Incubation Showcase (RIISE) organized @IIITD :)
I enjoyed planning and moderating a special session with Haiyya & Love Matters India in the summer school. Haiyya & Love Matters India are non-profits working together on the subject of sexual and reproductive health and rights, with a focus on creating safe spaces for women. On the school's third day, dedicated to AI and Social Good, we engaged our participants in a rapid design exercise on love, sex, relationships, stigma, and AI. The session brought various questions into the light leading to an in-depth discussion on the viability, suitability, feasibility, and ethical considerations of leveraging AI in such cases (e.g., AI and romantic relationships, SRHR chatbots, and sexbots).
Undergrads busy finishing their deadline for affinity mapping!
When your little time and effort brings a positive change and smile in peoples' life, you realise the true essence of humanity. Post the MHE Workshop, happy and confident faces holding the 5-P pouch (a handy pouch containing Panty, Pad, Paper, Paper soap, and Paper bag) - a SachhiSaheli initiative to make adolescents always prepared for periods.
One of the best feeling for a teacher is to see the students successfully applying the concepts taught by her (me in this case <3)
Teaching is an art form and from what I can see, to begin with, I need to work on my expressions (why am I looking so angry? :D)
A journey full of adventure, fun, madness, work, laughs, pressure, weightlifting (literally), meeting new people, making friends, endless chats, learnings, discussion over Chai, and what not! ICTDX will always be special and close to my heart.
